Canicross is the sport of cross-country running with your dog using specially designed equipment allowing you and your dog to run together as a team.
You don’t have to be a natural athlete to participate – in fact, many people start with Canicross to help improve their own fitness, as well as develop a stronger bond with their dog. You will run, jog or walk at your own pace, and find that your pace increases as your fitness improves with practice.
Dogs must be fully grown to participate in Canicross, to avoid damage to to the bones, joints and growth plates. For most small and medium breeds this is around 1 year, but could be 18 months or even 2 years for some large or giant breeds. If you have any doubt about whether your dog is old enough to participate in Canicross, please email laura@dogwayslancashire.com
We offer a variety of different Canicross Classes across East Lancashire, including:
- Canicross Introductions
- 1-2-1 Training Sessions
- Couch-2-5K Programmes
- Social Runs for all levels
For Introductions, 1-2-1 Training and C25K, we’ll have specialist kit available for you to borrow. We can also measure up your dog and advise on appropriate equipment purchase, so that you can buy your own kit if you want to run on your own or join in on Social Runs.
Whether you’re looking for a new activity to do with your dog, looking to improve your health & fitness, or just looking to meet up for a social run with like-minded people, Canicross has something for you.
